Seasonal Programs
Fill The Bus
In August, when the schools are getting ready to start the new school year, the "Fill the Bus" program collects donations of school supplies from the community. Notebook paper, binders, pencils, pens, crayons, rulers, glue sticks and other essential school supplies are divided evenly among many local schools. These items provide the schools with the tools needed to help build academic development.
In 2010, these local merchants and church partnered with FGFRC by providing collection boxes: Cedar Lodge Market, Fair Grove United Methodist Church, Piedmont Crossing Retirement Center, Chair City Office Supply, Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church, Pinewoods United Methodist Church, Fidelity Bank, City of Thomasville, Citizens Insurance, Cedar Lodge Baptist Church, Emmanuel Reformed Church, Memorial United Methodist Church, Southgate Baptist Church, Dr. Hurley, and First United Methodist Church.
Gifts From The Heart
Our Gifts From The Heart program brings the joy of Christmas to area children, who are "adopted" by the resource center. Children are referred by teachers from their respective schools and applications are sent home to parents to list clothing and shoe sizes and a few "wish list items". Members from the community then adopt a child and purchase items of necessity as well as a few playful items. When the shopping is done, the gifts are delivered to FGFRC and then given to the parents , who wrap the gifts for their children. This program not only brings smiles to the faces of local children, it relieves parents' stress of not having Christmas gifts for their children!
Wholly dependent on the community for its success, the resource center does not have funds to support this program. All donations are tax deductible.
